Traditional festival of Japan

A visual identity for a modern interpretation of a traditional local festival.

Visual identity, Print design

“Held every fall in Shikokuchuo City, Ehime Prefecture, the local festival is a procession through the streets of the city, carrying a golden-decorated, two-ton drum stand to thank the gods for the year’s bountiful harvest. The drum stands are delicately and boldly embroidered by master craftsmen and look like golden ‘covenant boxes’.”

“The drum stands are decorated with intricate embroideries of inherited myths, which are the work of master artisans. We have extracted a scene from the myth and paid homage to the craftsmanship with a contemporary design.”
