Yuta Takahashi will be the lecturer on R. Steiner architecture.

Yuta Takahashi will be the lecturer on “R. Steiner architecture lecture: ‘Understanding the artistic impulse (especially in the plastic arts) from an internal perspective'”.

Rudolf Steiner, who lived in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, called the present age the “materialistic age. A mystical thinker, he observed that before modern humanity developed self-consciousness, people lived their cultural lives based on instinctive and inner revelation. However, as time went on and mankind developed self-consciousness, the instinctive and inner impulses were withdrawn, and in exchange for freedom came an external cultural life that was riddled with various fallacies. He further states that the transition from interiority to exteriority is inevitable in human evolution, and that in the future humanity will need to grasp the interior life again, while maintaining a conscious state.

Steiner gave 6,000 lectures during his lifetime and left a legacy of achievements in many fields, including philosophy, education, art, medicine, agriculture, architecture, and economics. He believed that the artistic impulse must be understood and embodied in the way humanity will need to be in the future. This futuristic artistic impulse, he said, is both moral and ethical. Can we understand the artistic impulse internally and elevate it to a moral and ethical impulse?

In the “R. Steiner Lectures on Architecture,” to be held over three sessions, we will discuss the internal understanding of art from the aspect of the plastic impulse of architecture in human history, and the standpoints that make this understanding possible, drawing on Rudolf Steiner’s “The Philosophy of Freedom” and “The Road to a New Style of Architecture,” among others, I would like to share the internal understanding of past, present, and future artistic impulses.
